Questions
Short answers, each with the guide that shows how.
A one-sender inbox is locked. How do I get mail from someone else?
Open the inbox's settings, select Edit next to Locked to, and add their domain, or their own address if they use Gmail or a similar provider. They can write straight away.
Why was a message bounced?
When Clova turns a message away, the sender's mail server tells them so, with the reason. A message is turned away when:
- the inbox is a one-sender inbox, and the sender isn't one it takes mail from;
- the inbox has expired, been switched off, or been deleted;
- you blocked the sender;
- it came from a mail server known for sending spam, or failed the checks its sender's domain asks for.
Can I get a deleted address back?
Yes, the address, though not its mail. Make a new inbox with the same name, and Clova offers to bring it back: select Resurrect it. It comes back unlocked, and locks again as a new one does.
What happens when a temporary inbox expires?
It stops taking mail: anything sent to it after that is bounced. The mail already in it stays, unless you chose to delete it when the inbox expires, as a Throwaway inbox does. An expired inbox with no mail left is deleted soon after.
Until then, you can give it more time in its settings: change Expires, or, once it has expired, switch it back on with Enable.
Does Clova read my mail?
No person here reads your mail or opens your attachments as a matter of course. The one exception is a message reported as abusive, as spam or as illegal: a person may then read that message, to decide what to do about it.
Software checks every message as it arrives, to see who sent it and to look for spam, abuse and illegal material, and no person is involved in that. We don't read mail to improve a product, to train a model, or to build a profile of you.
Can I reply from my Clova address?
Yes. A reply goes from the address the message was sent to, and new mail from any of your permanent addresses. On the Free plan, what you send ends with a line saying it was sent from Clova.Email. On a paid plan, you can change that line or remove it.
What happens to my addresses and mail if I stop paying?
Nothing is deleted. A plan you cancel lasts to the end of the period you paid for, and then the account moves to Free:
- Permanent addresses and prefixes beyond what Free includes are switched off: they stop taking mail, and keep what they have. The address you signed up with stays on, then the ones you used most recently. You can switch others back on in their settings, within Free's limits.
- Forwarding addresses beyond Free's one are paused.
- A domain of your own keeps taking mail for 30 days, then stops.
- If your mail takes more room than Free's 100 MB, new mail can't arrive until you make room.
When payments fail instead, mail keeps arriving. Sending pauses after 7 days, and after 30 the account moves to Free, with 60 days more for its own domain.
Why didn't a forwarded message arrive?
Find the message here first. If it says Kept here, not forwarded, the line under it says why. Most often the sender doesn't sign its mail, so the other mailbox could take a forwarded copy for a fake, or your account reached its forwarding limit. A message kept here isn't sent on later.
Otherwise, the other mailbox took the message, or will: one that asks to be tried later is tried again for up to five days. Look among that mailbox's spam.
Mail in your spam folder isn't forwarded, and neither is mail from senders you've blocked or senders a one-sender inbox refuses. An inbox forwards once its forwarding address is confirmed and the inbox is set to forward there, in its settings under Forwarding.
Can I use my own domain?
Yes, on the Business plan. In Settings, under Account, select Add a domain. Clova shows the DNS records to publish where your domain is registered. Once it finds the first one, select Add this domain. Your addresses then take mail at it too: shop@yourcompany.com reaches the same inbox as shop@yourname.clova.email.
You can also sign up with your domain, and then the account is named after it.
How do I change the language?
In Settings, under Profile, choose a Language. It's saved straight away, and goes with you to every device you sign in on. Before you sign in, Clova follows your browser's language, and its home page has a switch for the visit.
Is there an app for my phone?
Not one to install. Clova works in your phone's browser, laid out for a phone, with a bar at the bottom for your inboxes, search and writing. Your browser can also put a shortcut to it on your home screen, as it can for any page.
Who can see my photo?
Other Clova users you write to see it beside your mail, while Show my photo to other Clova users when I email them is ticked, in Settings, under Profile. A photo you add yourself starts out shown. It's shown only for mail from your permanent addresses, never from a one-sender, prefix or temporary one, and people at other providers don't see it.
